See a production by the Elden Street Players. Herndon's local theatre group puts on some wonderful shows. There is a gamble that the show might be challenging, but most are good and some are great. And only $15. The musicals are usually the biggest crowd pleasers. |  |

Take a walk around Lake Thoreau. It's beautiful and peaceful. It's about 2 miles. Do it in each of the four seasons! |  |

Visit Lake Anne Plaza during the Farmer's Market, which is every Saturday from May to October from 9am-noon. Lake Anne is a nice place to walk around to look at shops, galleries restaurants, fountains and of course beautiful Lake Anne. |  |

Fly a kite at Lake Fairfax Park. You can also fish, picnic or swim at the waterpark. This 476 acre park is the biggest park in the Herndon-Reston area. |

Visit Jimmy's Old Town Tavern, the friendly local bar with a dj and dance floor. Jimmy has something going on almost every night. Right across the street is the Ice House Cafe for the more mature crowd. Ice House has a raw bar, and live jazz on the weekends. |  |

Visit the Reston Zoo and/or Frying Pan Park to see the animals. The Reston Petting Zoo has more animals and they have pony rides. Frying Pan Park is a farm and it's free. The best time to go to Frying Pan Park is in the spring to see all the baby animals. |  |

Go to the Herndon Center (Kmart Shopping Center) and eat at a quintessential Herndon restuarant; Charcoal Kabob, Harvest of India or Pho 75. |  |

Go to Reston Town Center for a summer concert. Every Saturday night at the Pavilion at Town Center there is a free concert. Sometimes the band is good and the crowd gets lively. In the winter the Pavilion is an ice skating rink. |  |

Go to Friday Night Live or the Herndon Festival. The Herndon Festival is the best local summer festival with rides, food, live bands and childrens activities. Friday Night Live happens every Friday from May-Aug. The bands are sometimes good and sometimes not-so-good, but it's not necessarily all about the band. Lots of people just go to drink after work, and families go to picnic. They sell food and beer. Anywhere there is an outdoor band with beer and dancing is going to be an excellent place to people-watch! |  |
